One Hundred Smiles

One Hundred Smiles at ICA Boston, 2014;
Proposal, Video Still in situ; Dimensions Variable, 9' 50” loop

I smile one-hundred times. Very happy. Recorded in real time with no cuts. The video is slowed down to emphasize subtle movements, differences, and expressions. The image is distorted to amplify colors associated with happiness and to make the image more abstract and expressionist. This is a picture of someone watching the video at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston.

Hex Game (stop motion reh.)

Hex Game (stop motion reh.), 2015; Video; Dimensions Variable, 1' 12”

A handful of hexagons and the diamonds that are a by-product of most efficiently filling space with the hexagons. A game played with the hexagons; moving one piece the distance of one face with each turn. Begins to imply and resemble Islamic pattern and design. Concretely symbolizing the infinite, and the uncentralized nature of creation. A few steps away from being turned into some kind of humane game, ideally multiplayer.

Jumping The Shark

Jumping the Shark, 2014; Video, 2'38”

“Jumping the shark” is an idiom used to describe the moment in the evolution of a television show when it begins to decline in quality. Signaled by a particular scene, episode, or aspect of a show in which the writers use a ridiculous gimmick in an attempt to keep viewers' interest. It is a sign of desperation. In this movie I am jumping back and forth over Damien Hirst's The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living.

Rainbows For My Wife

Rainbows For My Wife, 2013; Video; 7' 00”

Simple materials to sublime results. A very close-up recording of a piece of holographic paper. Primordial and magical, tactile and intimate. Eye-candy, ecstatic color play; visual indulgence, undulating, joyful, euphoric anti-forms. The aesthetic is easily translatable into digital forms of visualization and sonification.
